About Synchro
  What is synchro?
The execution of precision movements on, above, and beneath the water, performed to music. To illustrate, imagine. A Gymnast performing under water... A six-minute miler running without breathing... An ice skater perfecting figure movements in an unstable medium... A dancer’s artistic flair in choreographing routines...
A water polo player’s power and strength needed to extend out of the water... A long distance swimmer’s lung capacity developed for endurance... Add to that a combination of grace, fluidity, and SYNCHRONIZATION of an entire team and you have just imagined the ENERGIZED ELEGANCE OF SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMING

About RAQ
The Riverside AQuettes was founded in May 1958 and was affiliated with the YWCA. The affiliation with the “Y” was ended when the “Y” building was sold and the pool was no longer available. In November 1966 incorporation papers were filed with the State of California and the Riverside AQuettes became a non-profit corporation with the following objectives:
-To provide and encourage the development of Synchronized Swimming by young people.
-To provide an organization for public performance of Synchronized Swimming.
-To encourage and promote the advancement of physical fitness and health in young people.

The club meets its operating expenses by assessing a financial obligation to the members, running a recreation program, and conducting various fundraisers throughout the year. The yearly budget is just over $115,000. The AQuettes’ home pool is Shamel Park Pool. We also use Sippy Woodhead pool on the corner of Kansas and University. Our major events are held at the Riverside Aquatics Complex on the campus of Riverside City College.

Each swimmer is a member of United States Synchronized Swimming, Inc. (USSSI). Membership entitles the swimmer to enter USSSI competitions and receive insurance coverage.

Presently, the club has members (ages 7 to 18) from Riverside and cities throughout the Inland Empire and beyond. The Riverside AQuettes is more than just a sports club. The organization is dedicated to the development of community and business leadership skills in its members through competition in the sport of Synchronized Swimming. It works to provide a strong community focus with the intention of developing in its athletes self-esteem, a sense of responsibility to their community and the leadership skills that will allow them to make a difference. The club stresses physical fitness, teamwork, leadership, self-discipline, a high
standard of moral values and the ideals of good sportsmanship.

The success of the Riverside AQuettes is due in part to our incredible coaching staff, parents organization, and general manager and Head Coach, Sue Nesbitt. She comes to us after a very successful competitive career, including eighteen national
championships and fourteen international titles including gold medals in the Pan Am Games and two World Games. She served as an Olympic Coach for Australia for the 1984 Olympic Games and continues to train international synchronized swimmers and coaches here in Riverside. In 1995, she earned the title of U.S. National Coach. The United States Olympic Committee named Sue its Developmental Coach of the Year in 1999, 2006, and 2007.

The mission of the Riverside AQuettes is to produce high-caliber, successful and goal-oriented young people through a synchronized swimming curriculum which emphasizes the development of technical, physical and mental ability, the integration of creative movement to music, and cooperative functioning as a team member.
